Yoga therapy is a way of carefully applying the practices of yoga to support and improve our health and wellbeing.
Usually it is taught in a 1-2-1 setting and then home practice in between visits.
In our initial session we will spend time reviewing your aims and current health picture, any previous experience in yoga, movement-based activities, or meditative practices and your lifestyle and relevant interests, and then work together to develop a suitable starting point that you can begin to practice regularly at home.
Anyone, regardless of age or fitness, can enjoy and benefit from a well crafted yoga practice, whether you are recovering from illness or injury or have limited mobility or energy. There is always something you can do.
Yoga can be extremely helpful when applied intelligently and progressively.
I trained initially for four years (well beyond the average 6-month yoga teacher training program that is currently the standard) with Paul Harvey. The training was in-depth to enable careful application of the wide range of yoga tools available. The training included yoga and Ayurveda and I've been working therapeutically with clients since 2008. I've worked with a wide range of health conditions, from back pain, to anxiety and depression, digestive disorders, recovery for athletes, and providing supportive practices to those with chronic life limiting conditions.
Yoga therapy can be particularly helpful in a wide range of situations including:
- recovery from illness and injury
- reducing and coping with anxiety and stress
- improving back and spine health
- improving stiffness or limited mobility
- pregnancy and post-natal support
- improving menstrual problems
- establishing and developing a meditation practice
- personal development
