Yoga therapy is a way of carefully applying the practices of yoga to support and improve our health and wellbeing.
Usually taught to you in a 1-2-1 setting and then continued at home, practicing a carefully developed routine, daily or regularly.
In our initial session we will spend time reviewing your current health picture, any previous experience in yoga, exercise or movement-based activities, and your aims and interests, and then work together to design a suitable practice that you then do regularly at home to support health improvements.
Anyone, regardless of age or fitness, can enjoy and benefit from a well crafted yoga practice, whether you are recovering from illness or injury or have limited mobility or energy. There is always something you can do.
Usually yoga therapy is taught in private sessions or in small, personalised group classes. Yoga can be extremely helpful when applied carefully and progressively. The yoga practices will be adapted to suit your level of health, energy and take any particular issues into consideration.
I trained initially for four years (well beyond the average 6-month yoga teacher training program that is currently the standard) with Paul Harvey. The training was in-depth to enable careful application of the wide range of yoga tools available. The training included yoga and Ayurveda and I've been working therapeutically with clients since 2008. I've worked with a wide range of health conditions, from minor back complaints, to anxiety and depression, to athletic recovery and providing supportive practices to those with a terminal diagnosis.
Yoga therapy can be particularly helpful in a wide range of situations including:
- recovery from illness and injury
- reducing and coping with anxiety or stress
- improving back and spine health
- improving stiffness or limited mobility
- developing fitness
- pregnancy and post-natal recovery
- improving menstrual problems
- establishing and developing meditation practice
- personal development
Lessons are usually held at Yoga Space Bishopston in Bristol. There is a car park for you to use if you are driving. Equipment is provided. Appointments are in the daytime, in between timetables classes.
